York University

Founded in 1959, York University is based in Toronto. It has 5 campuses – Keele, Glendon, Markham Centre, Ecocampus (Costa Rica), and Hyderabad (India). The university has 11 faculties which offer approximately 200 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

York University

52,300 students are enrolled in the university. 46,400 are undergraduate students and 5,900 are graduate students. The number of international students is 6,200. They represent 178 countries.

York is particularly known for its courses in Business, Arts, and Social Sciences.

In particular, York University’s Schulich School of Business, is internationally renowned for its management programs. The school offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The full-time course is between 16-20 months. It is offered in the Keele campus, the Miles S. Nadal Management Centre, and the India campus.

The requirements for the full-time MBA are – an undergraduate degree with a B+ average, GMAT or GRE scores, a minimum of two-years work experience, and the completion of an online application. The online application requires essays (2 written, 1 timed written, 2 videos), an up-to-date resume, two references, unofficial copies of transcripts, and test scores. Applicants are also required to submit English language proficiency tests (IELTS/TOEFL).

The deadlines for applications are in July for a January entry, and in December for a September entry. Schulich’s full-time MBA program is four academic terms and the estimated total tuition fees is 100,000 CAD.

A number of scholarships are available to MBA students both at the time of entry and during the program. One of them is the Robert Krembil Scholarship of Merit. The scholarship is worth 40,000 CAD and is awarded at the time of entrance to students with excellent leadership skills and academic merit. It is renewable in the second year if the students achieve a GPA of 7.0 on the first 30 credit-hours of coursework. Three scholarships are available each year and allocated during Fall.

Schulich also offers the Heather L. Main Scholarship (Women in Capital Markets). The award is worth 25000 CAD. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in Canadian capital markets, as well as leadership capabilities and academic excellence.

For those interested in Engineering, York is also known for its postgraduate program in Civil Engineering. York University offers a Master of Applied Science in Civil Engineering with specialization in areas like Transportation Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and Water Resources.

The program is of a 2-year duration and has both Fall (September/October) entry as well as a Winter (January/February) entry. Application deadlines are in January, May, and September. Applicants must submit a completed application form, course transcripts, cover letter, CV, two confidential letters of recommendation, and proof of English language proficiency.

The course fees are approximately 7,300 CAD per term.

York University’s MA in History also enjoys a good reputation thanks to international rankings. The average program length is full-time (3 terms). Application deadlines are in December for a Fall entry. The average GPA requirement is B+.

Applicants must submit copies of transcripts, English-language test scores, 3 letters of recommendations, a statement of interest, a sample of written work, and instructors’ names along with courses taken.

The course fees are approximately 6,500 CAD per term.
