Founded in 1887 in Toronto, McMaster University relocated to its current location – Hamilton, in 1930. The university has 6 faculties – Business, Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science and Health Sciences.

McMaster University’s total full-time student population is approximately 28,000. More than 24,000 students are undergraduates, and approximately 3,514 are graduates. In 2015, international students accounted for approximately 20% of the graduate student body.

The university is particularly well-known for its programs in management, clinical, pre-clinical and medicine.

McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business offers an MBA in 4 variations – co-op, part-time, full-time, and accelerated. For September admissions, the online admissions cycle opens on 1 November and closes on 30 March. For the accelerated program, the cycle opens on August 1.

To be eligible, applicants must have completed a 4-year degree in any discipline with a B-average. They need to submit degree transcripts, GMAT scores, two letters of recommendation, academic or work references, and a TOEFL/IELTS/PTE score. In some cases, the GRE test might be accepted in lieu of GMAT. Applicants must also submit proof of work experience.

The tuition fees for international students is 80,000 CAD.

McMaster University offers a limited number of international entrance scholarships which range in value from $2,000 to $10,000. Applicants to the full-time and co-op programs are automatically considered for scholarships at the time of application. Those who apply for scholarships will be notified on admission. External scholarships offered by philanthropic organizations require a separate application form.

One of the scholarships offered to full-time MBA students is ‘The Foyston, Gordon & Payne MBA Scholarship.’ It is awarded to those who have completed their first-year and chosen to specialize in finance. Apart from academic excellence, candidates must also show leadership skills.

Another scholarship available to MBA students entering their second year is the Michael Lee-Chin and Family Scholarship. The students must be majoring in the Strategic Business Valuation specialization. The approximate value of the award is 10,000 CAD.

McMaster is also very well-known for its Master of Science in Global Health. The program is offered jointly with Maastricht University (Netherlands). Its duration is 12 months. The tuition fee is approximately 20,000 CAD per semester.

To apply, students need a Bachelors (Honours) degree with a B+ average, two academic references, a statement of interest, CV or resume, and a completed online application and fees. Students must also demonstrate an interest in one of the programs concentrations.

The MSc in Chemical Biology is also a much sought-after program. The course is offered full-time. It also requires a B+ average in the final year of admission. Students must review research interests of faculty members before making an application. This is to ensure that students have a supervisor when they are admitted to the course.

Required documents include two official transcripts sent directly from the issuing institution, two letters of recommendation, an official copy of the TOEFL score, statement of interest, and an online application submitted along with fees.

Admissions are offered on a rolling basis throughout the year for January, May, and September intakes.
