University of Calgary

University of Calgary is a public research university in Alberta, Canada. It was established in 1944 as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta but attained autonomy in 1966.

The university has five campuses - four in the Calgary area and a fifth in Qatar. These are - the main campus in the northwest quadrant, the Foothills campus, the Downtown campus, the Spy Hill campus, and an overseas branch campus in Doha, Qatar.

As of July 2017, the University has more than 30,000 students currently enrolled. An estimated 24,000 students are undergraduates whilst the remaining 6,000 are pursuing graduate studies. More than 3,000 students are international and represent approximately 125 countries.

Extensive partnerships and collaboration agreements with fellow universities in more than 140 countries allows the U of C to provide a robust study abroad program. More than 1,100 students participate in the exchange program to study in more than 80 destinations worldwide.

The University of Calgary is particularly renowned for its graduate research studies focusing on the key global priority areas of energy innovations, engineering solutions for health, new Earth-space technologies, brain and mental health, and management.

The University’s unique Global Energy Executive MBA from the Haskayne School of Business (U of C’s business school), International Energy Lawyers program, and Sustainable Energy Development degree are some of the defining courses of the university.

The cost of the Global Energy EMBA program is CAD 110,000 plus general fees that includes course materials, meals during face-to-face sessions, travel and logistics for field visits and more. The duration of the program is less than two years and is targeted towards endowing the best growth opportunities to senior professionals who have extensive experience in the field.

The university also waives off the necessary condition of providing a GMAT score for EMBA if you achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher in a four-year accredited undergraduate degree, graduate degree or professional degree in the final two years of study.

International applicants must also apply for an English proficiency test and secure a minimum score of 7 in IELTS and 580 (paper-based) or 97 (internet based) in TOEFL.

Since Calgary is the Energy capital of Canada, the University boasts of its STEM courses. The university’s Master of Engineering degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering is one of the most-sought after programs by international students. It’s a two-year classroom program that costs around CAD 12,700 for international students.

The University of Calgary is ranked amongst the top 10 research universities in Canada in terms of sponsored research funding. The university spent CAD 360.5 million in sponsored research funding in the year 2014-15.

It also offers a multitude of scholarships, awards and bursaries to its applicants to help them ease out the funding of their education.
