University of Montreal

The University of Montreal was established in 1878. It has five campuses - Terrebonne, Saint-Hyacinthe, Laval, Longueuil and Mauricie. The university also has two affiliated schools – Polytechnique Montreal, and HEC Montreal. It was ranked 103 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2017.

The university has more than 67000 students enrolled in over 600 undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Approximately 74% (49,000) students are undergraduate and 26% (17,000) are graduate students.

The university is known for its courses in Sociology, Statistics and Operational Research, Veterinary Sciences, and Management.

HEC Montreal offers a full-time MBA. To be eligible, applicants must have an undergraduate degree, and have professional experience of at least 3 years. They must also pass one of the aptitude tests, (TAGE MAGE, GMAT, GRE). The university also needs proof of advanced intermediacy in English. Candidates can support that by submitting international language test scores. They must also submit their CV, answer essay question(s), and submit two letters of recommendation. Once applicants complete their online application, they will receive a link where they can submit three video essays.

Admission deadlines are in September, November, and January. The tuition fees for international students is approximately 32,000 CDN.

HEC Montreal offers a variety of scholarships and funding opportunities to its students. These include entrance, need-based and leadership scholarships.

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Montreal is also well-known for its program offerings. Students can apply for a Master of Science (MSc) in Chemistry. The course is offered full-time at the Montreal campus and guarantees funding for all students who are accepted. According to the university website, most international students who are admitted receive scholarships for exemption from tuition fees.

Students have access to laboratories for nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis among others. The admissions are offered on a rolling basis for Fall, Winter and Summer.

To qualify, students must have a B.Sc. or B.S. in Chemistry with a good grade. They must also demonstrate fluency in French and English, and submit a statement of purpose as well as a CV.

Another popular course for international students is the Master’s in Physics. Students can choose to study the program with or without a minor. Those who choose to study without a minor have the following specialisations – astrophysics, condensed matter, plasma physics, mathematical or particle physics.

To be eligible, students must have a relevant bachelor’s degree with a good grade. And they must also demonstrate a good knowledge of French and English. Required documents include: statement of purpose, application form, and two letters of recommendation.

International students are exempted from tuition fees as a scholarship.

The deadlines for application are as follows: for entry in Fall 2018, it is January 1, 2017 to February 1, 2018; and for entry in Summer 2018: the deadlines are between September 1, 2016 to February 1, 2018.
