McGill University

McGill University was founded in 1821. The university is named after James McGill, whose bequest helped found the McGill college. McGill University has two main campuses - Mount Royal in downtown Montreal, and the second campus at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. 11 faculties and schools are housed in the two campuses.

The university has approximately 36,500 students. Graduate students number approximately 8000 and come from over 150 countries.

More than 300 programs are offered at McGill. It is well-known for its Mathematics, Computer Science and Information Systems, English Language and Literature, Development Studies and Management departments.

The two-year full-time MBA offered by McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management is a draw for international students. To be eligible, applicants must have an undergraduate degree and any further qualifications, a valid GMAT or GRE test result, and a TOEFL or IELTS, as well as essays, letters of reference, and extracurricular interests. Additionally, they must have a minimum of two-years of work experience.

Qualified applicants are invited for an interview with the admissions committee.

To apply, students must pay by credit card when uploading their application. They must also upload supporting documents. Additionally, they must complete and upload the Work History Form, MBA Essay Questions, Reference letters, Transcripts, CV, GMAT/GRE results, TOEFL results and an MBA Applicant survey.

McGill University reviews applications on a rolling basis. The deadlines are in November, January, March, and May. The tuition fees for international students for the entire two years is over 85,000 CDN.

McGill University considers all applicants for awards if they are admitted, unless there are exceptions. A majority of the awards are made by the university’s MBA Scholarships Committee. MBA Scholarships awarded by the university include - Adam Dinkes MBA Leadership Award, Duerksen MBA Leadership Award, Rio Tinto - Richard Evans Graduate Fellowships.

The university is also particularly well-known for its degree programs in Microbiology and Immunology. It offers a program in M.Sc. Microbiology and Immunology. Each M.Sc. student chooses their research area and supervisor before, or during, the application process.

To be eligible, applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area – Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry and related disciplines. International students must also have valid TOEFL and IELTS test scores.

It is important to note that no applicants are accepted without a supervisor. The application dates are 21 April, for the Fall term, 3 September for the Winter term, and 5 January for the Summer term.

The tuition fees for a Master’s program at the university is approximately 8000-10000 CDN a year.

Another popular postgraduate course at McGill University is Master of Urban Planning. It is the first institution in Canada to offer a full-time planning program. The course started in September 1947, one of the first in Canada. It is of a two-year duration. Students work with supervisors on creating a personalized course of study. They also undertake a supervised research project in the second year.

To apply, students must fill the form online. They must also submit their personal statement, CV as well as TOEFL or IELTS scores. The deadline for applications is 15thJanuary, and the program starts in the Fall.
