Do you know what Newt Scamander (from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) fears the most? Working in an office. If you are inclined towards a dynamic career too, a degree in hospitality and tourism management (HTM) could possibly make the world your playground. Here is BrainGain Magazine’s list of schools offering postgraduate degrees in HTM.

  1. University of Johannesburg, South Africa
The master’s program in HTM is targeted at professionals who wish to grow, as well as young graduates keen to start a holistic career in the tourism and hospitality industry. It is a research-oriented master’s program, involving writing a thesis as well. The program equips students to understand nuances that shape the global tourism and hospitality industry today.

  2. Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, US
M.Sc. in HTM at VirginiaTech offers different specializations and a practical curriculum complete with a research paper. The course provides a number of electives for students wanting to focus on specific areas of the hospitality industry, like restaurant management, hospitality finance, travel destination marketing etc.

  3. University of Glasgow, Scotland
M.Sc. in Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism offers a unique foundation on social and environmental impact of tourism. This course is offered as a partnership between the Adam Smith Business School and School of Interdisciplinary Studies, drawing on the University’s research strengths in management and tourism.

  4. The University of Queensland (QU), Australia
QU offers two exhaustive masters programs – Tourism Leadership and Tourism, as well as Hotel and Event Management. There are several credit courses under these two programs such as event planning and design global hospitality operations, and designing food and beverage experiences, along with a research/consultancy project in the Master of Tourism Leadership program.

  5. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong
Asia is an increasingly popular tourism destination. South Asia alone saw an 8% growth in 2016, according to a UN World Trade Organisation’s report. Since Asia is becoming one of the most visited regions, it is imperative that the region develops skills to manage this growing industry. School of Hotel and Tourism Management offers an M.Sc. degree in HTM. The blended course work focuses on management, service orientation, and sustainability, while also providing professional workplace experience.

  6. James Cook University, Australia
A Master in International Tourism and Hospitality Management and a joint degree (master’s and MBA) in HTM makes James Cook a preferred destination for those pursuing a career in the tourism industry. The program prepares students for career avenues such as tour operators, airline marketers, travel consultants, etc. What’s more? JCU offers these courses in both its campuses – Brisbane and Singapore.
