  1. Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich)

    The Institute ranks fifth on the list which includes UK universities. Founded in 1854 by the government, this is a federal research institute. It stated mission is to educate scientists and researchers. So, the school focuses on STEM subjects. It is well-ranked for its courses in Computer Science, Environment and Ecology, Maths, Geosciences and Optics.
     
  2. University of Copenhagen

    One of the oldest universities in Northern Europe – UCPH was founded in 1479. Today it has six faculties, and 36 departments with more than 200 research centres.

    It is well-known for its offerings in Pharmacology and Toxicology, Biology and Biochemistry, Endocrinology and Metabolism, as well as Plant and Animal Sciences.
     
  3. University of Amsterdam

    Ranked 9th on the US News list, Amsterdam is a popular choice for international students. It is one of two public research universities in Amsterdam. The university has seven faculties: Humanities, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Economics and Business, Science, Law, Medicine and Dentistry.

    Its programs in Surgery, Psychiatry, as well as Arts and Humanities are well-ranked. Although the primary language of instruction is Dutch, many master’s programs are taught in English.
     
  4. Sorbonne University

    Formed as a result of the merger of two top universities in Paris, Sorbonne ranks among the top 10 in Europe. It is well-known for its comprehensive disciplinary range which spans subjects in the arts and humanities to natural sciences, engineering and medicine.

    The university’s programs in Neuroscience, Space Sciences, and Maths, are well-ranked globally.
     
  5. University of Munich (Ludwig Maximilian Munich)

    Tying with Sorbonne at number ten is the University of Munich – one of Germany’s oldest continuously operating universities. It was founded in 1472 in Ingolstadt. The university’s downtown campus is home to the faculties of social sciences and humanities. It’s high tech campus, home to natural and life sciences, is located in the south east part of the city.

    The university has more than 200 degree programs of which Radiology, Neurosciences, and Physics are particularly well-respected globally.
