Entrepreneurship emerges as key focus for study abroad as experts from Coursera, College Board, Wharton, Cambridge, NYU share ideas on education

New Delhi, March 16, 2015: Braingain Magazine, South Asia’s largest online study abroad publication on higher education, recently hosted a free Study Abroad Information Session for students, at the fourth annual edition of the ‘One Globe; Uniting Knowledge Communities’ Conference held in New Delhi. The session was designed around the topics of Planning Higher Education in the USA; MOOCs: Creating a Generation of Self-motivated Learners; How to Start a Company: The Secrets of an Entrepreneur; and, 5 Tips for Getting into the Ivy Leagues, Oxford and Cambridge. The Study Abroad Information Session was preceded by a Breakfast Roundtable for principals and heads of schools and colleges from all over India and focused on the theme, ‘Knowledge Exchange: International Education for Indian Students’.

The panel comprised of leading education experts and entrepreneurs including Zafeena Suresh, EducationUSA Advisor at United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), Stephanie Durand, International Growth Manager, Coursera, Jerry MacArthur Hultin, Senior Presidential Fellow, NYU, Dr. Bennett McClellan, Vice Dean of Jindal School of Liberal Arts and Humanities, Gauri Singh, Founder and Director, The Maids’ Company, Amar Singh, Founder and CEO, Clove Dental, and Shailaja Fennell, Lecturer in Developmental Studies, Department of Land Economy, University of Cambridge.

Dongnian Zhou, Project Manager, and Dominic Johnson, Director of Business Operations, from Knowledge@Wharton, University of Pennsylvania presented a talk on the Knowledge@Wharton High School Global Young Leaders Academy which is a two-week intensive, academic summer program for high school students being held over May-June this year. In another presentation, Lisa Jain, India representative of College Board, introduced the students to the SAT and the Advanced Placement Program® being offered by College Board for students wishing to lower the cost of education and earn scholarships, college credits and awards.

Harjiv Singh, Founder and Publisher of BrainGain Magazine said, “This year, we introduced the entrepreneurial aspect to the Study Abroad session to give the students a glimpse of what opportunities await them and how valuable is exposure to international education to becoming a global leader. This session helped them in understanding the dynamics of the whole process of studying abroad and how to make it easier and less overwhelming.

The free session saw participation from 26 schools and colleges from the country. Students from Delhi Public School, Shriram School, Modern School, Delhi University, IP University, Jamia Millia Islamia amongst othersattended the informative session. In a competition organised by BrainGain Magazine as part of the Study Abroad session, Sonia Singh, a student of Vidyagyan School, Delhi, won an iPad Mini. The award was given away by Harjiv Singh.
