Salwan Media partners with USIBC and Knowledge@Wharton to host One Globe 2012 Uniting Knowledge Communities

Global conference to focus on higher education, skills development, vocational training and investments in Indian education sector

New Delhi, India, December 7, 2011Salwan Media Private Limited, a media company focused on education, consumer and business information, today announces that it is partnering with US India Business Council (USIBC) and Knowledge@Wharton to host its first annual flagship educational conference One Globe 2012 – Uniting Knowledge Communities’ on 3rd and 4th February 2012 in New Delhi, India.

HarjivSingh, Founder and CEO, Salwan Media said, “One Globe will be our annual flagship event to bring together global and local perspectives from think tanks, businesses, government, policy makers, investors, foreign universities, skill development/vocational training organizations,  to the challenge and opportunity of creating a 21st century knowledge economy”.  Harjiv added, “With 54% of its population under the age of 25, India has a youthful demographic which is expected to translate into an economic dividend in the coming decades. This dividend can only be cashed if we invest in creating a knowledge society that can spread education and its benefits across the entire region’s population.”

The two day conference will have an education fair on the second day which will be dedicated exclusively to students and parents.  Visiting University presidents, deans and faculty from around the world as well as experts who have studied abroad will address every aspect of study abroad ranging from choosing a study abroad destination, courses of study, scholarships, financial aid, application procedures, and visas  to help make informed decisions.

Commenting on the conference, Ron Somers, President, USIBC said, “U.S. Industry recognizes the imperative to leverage India’s great demographic dividend. More than 220 million students between the ages of 6 and 18 require better access to K-12 education, vocational education and training, and to institutes of higher learning. Working with academia, industry, and NGOs to strengthen institutional linkages will be a high priority for USIBC, now and for the long future.”

According to the National Knowledge Commission, for India to get the real demographic dividend we need to educate the 550 million people under the age of 25 through proper education to build future growth and prosperity.
