WHERE DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL?

I went to school in New Delhi, India.

HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON A CAREER IN HOSPITALITY?

Choosing a career in hospitality, especially from a culture where this industryis still growing and not fully understood, was an extremely bold step for meand my family.

However, my passion for service, culinary arts and travelling prompted me to choose this line of career right after my high school. Of course, it goes without saying none of this would have been possible without my parents’ constant support and motivation.

WHAT FACTORS INFLUENCED YOU TO JOIN LES ROCHES MARBELLA?

One of the beauties of Europe is that it is extremely cultural, and Les Roches Marbella is no different. With more than 65 nationalities on campus, your best friend or roommate could possibly be from any part of the world. This was one of the main reasons why I wanted to study hospitality in Les Roches Marbella.

In addition to this, the school provides you with a program that not only has a strong academic programs, but also a great practical/experiential training program that students undergo throughout their Bachelor of Business Administration course.

And of course, Spain is another great reason to choose Les Roches Marbella. There’s a new trend going on in social media that uses the hashtag #ilivewhereyouvacation. That’s absolutely true when it comes to Les Roches. Marbella is a beautiful city, where I live and study, and also where the whole world likes to vacation. So it is safe to say this is the best of both worlds.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR COURSE – CONTENT, DELIVERY AND OUTCOMES?

The three and a half years of a BBA degree are exhilarating, intensive, and comprehensive.

For the first three academic semesters, we alternate learning service, kitchen andoperations, with practical classes in restaurants, bars and kitchens as servers, chefs or even managers.

The last two semesters focus on business management education, where we can choose a specialisation, apply for a dissertation, and focus on management styles to become successful professionals in the future.

The program also requires us to do two internships in the hospitality sector. These could be in hotels like Four Seasons, Marriott, Ritz Carlton, Sheraton, etc. There are also possibilities with cruise lines, companies like Apple, Google, Louis Vuitton, and other luxury brands located around the world.

During the internships we train in specific areas: from rooms division management and financial management to kitchen operations, strategic human resource management and international marketing.

WHAT EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN?

As I mentioned before, my passion for food drove me into this field, and Masterchef is a competition I have been religiously participating in for the past 2 years.

Some of the other activities that I absolutely love are Sports Day, the Halloween Pumpkin Carving challenge, and the Mixology competition.

There are also various clubs that students join, like the Wine Club, Running Club, Reading Club, and the Sustainability Club, just to name a few.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

At the moment, I still have to complete my last year in order to finish my Bachelor’s in hospitality. I am looking forward to graduating with honours, and completing a master’s program, before I formally step into the professional world.

FAVOURITE MEMORIES OF MARBELLA?

I am extremely proud to have been actively involved and instrumental in raising funds for the ‘Think Pink’ Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.

As a theme of our final exam in Food Service Operations for the Bistro Café,back in 2013, our team of 10 students got together to promote  awareness of breast cancer by decorating the café in pink, and collecting donations from students in aid of the local cancer association.

We decorated the restaurant as per the theme with details such as pink ribboned cupcakes and cakes, customised menus, posters, emails, etc. The campaign ran for three days and we had an amazing outcome.

This is one of my favourite memories because the whole school came together, for this cause, and we all contributed in a way that makes a real difference.

Aside from this moment, memories at Les Roches happen every day in our relationships with friends, teachers, school events, and more. I always realise this when the semester is over and I return home for vacation. After a few days away I always find myself anxious to return.
